Trump Tells Breitbart News: I said FAKE Media is the Enemy of the People

President Trump Repeats: I Said Fake News Media is the Enemy of the People

Since Donald Trump has referred to the Fakes News Media in a speech at CPAC and on Twitter as the enemy of the people, the mains stream media has incessantly characterized Mr. Trump’s statement as “the media is the enemy of the people” omitting the word “fake” (eg. here and here.)

Yesterday, Donald Trump gave Breitbart News an exclusive interview. The first topic was about Donald Trump’s “Fake news is the enemy of the people” statement that the fake news media continually and intentionally omits the word “fake”:

HICKS (Breitbart reporter): “They said ‘Oh Donald Trump said the press is the enemy of the American people.’”

POTUS (Donald Trump): “Right. They take ‘fake’ media off. They say ‘the media is the enemy of—well, they didn’t say the ‘fake media.’ I didn’t say the media is the enemy—I said the ‘fake media.’ They take the word fake out and all of a sudden it’s like I’m against—there are some great reporters like you. I know some great honorable reporters who do a great job like Steve [Holland] from Reuters, others, many others. I wasn’t talking about that. I was talking about the fake media, where they make up everything there is to make up.”

Matt Lauer To George Bush: Do You Think the Media is the Enemy of the People?

The main stream media, that Donald Trump calls the fake news media, continues to misstate the President’s quote on which media is the enemy of the people. Since Mr. Trump has been clear in referring to media outlets like CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC and the New York Times as “fake news”, those outlets have been the most offended by the charge and have either taken the offensive like the NY Times in their Oscar Award Ceremony “truth” TV ad or mischaracterize Mr. Trump’s statement like CNN did recently, in order to create outrage against the President.

Matt Lauer of NBC’s Today show was the most recent offender in the fake news media’s “enemy of the people” ranting. In the clip below, Lauer asks former President Bush if he ever considered the media as “the enemy of the people”, inferring that Donald Trump considers the media (vs the FAKE news media) as the enemy of the people.

Lauer’s line of questioning allows the former President to refute a statement Trump never made.

A reminder as to what Donald Trump actually said – he clearly refers to the FAKE news media as the enemy of the people:

CNN Says Trump Says the Media is the Enemy of the People

The President has been clear that it’s the FAKE NEWS MEDIA that is the enemy of the people not THE MEDIA

Donald Trump has called the fake media an enemy of the people quite a few times. He has noted, however, that media outlets have changed his statement to “the media is an enemy of the people” purposefully leaving out the word “fake”.

Here is an example of a CNN reporter repeating the charge that Donald Trump calleds “the media” an enemy of the people during an interview with Ben Stein.

“He said.. he called the media the enemy of the people.”

What Trump actually tweeted:

Mr Trump clearly referred to the “fake news media” as the enemy:

The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!

CNN: earning their new nickname everyday, Very Fake News!

New York Times Takes Out Ad To Combat “Fake News” Tag, Trump Responds

New York Times Bought Television Ad That Aired During Oscar Ceremony

Soon after Hillary Clinton lost the Presidential election to Donald Trump, despite the best efforts of The New York Time to prevent such an outcome, the New York Times and other main stream media outlets began the mantra that “fake news” (and the Russians) helped Donald Trump win the election. Indeed, the New York Times mentioned “fake news” incessantly in the six week period from the election to the end of December.

Even Hillary Clinton rolled out of bed one day in December to denounce the evils of fake news.

number-of-articles-in-the-new-york-times-referencing-fake-news
Fake news references in the New York Times were up 531% in 2016 over 2015.

Many of the alternative news outlets that the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, Facebook and other main stream media companies tagged with the moniker “fake news” fired back that the real fake news was coming from the main stream media companies. Alternative news media outlets created their own fake news lists that included the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, CBS and other main stream media companies.

The term fake news, first introduced by the main stream media to characterize their alternative media competition, began to backfire so spectacularly that the New York Times and Washington Post called for a ban on using the term!

On January 11, 2017 at a press conference Donald Trump specifically called out CNN as “fake news”. Later February 16, 2017 on Donald Trump downgraded CNN to “very fake news“.

The term “fake news” had boomeranged on the main stream media.

During the Oscar awards ceremony last night the New York Times aired an an ad that attempted to portray themselves as the purveyors of truth and the President as a liar.

You can see the New York Times “Truth” commercial here.

The President’s reaction was swift and pithy:

The tables have indeed turned. Instead of eliminating alternative media by destroying them with the fake news tag, the New York Times is now spending money to defend their reputation as a “not fake news” media outlet.

Sean Spicer Shuts out Fake News Outlets From Press Gaggle

The “Fake News” media was sent into a tizzie today when ten media outlets were prohibited from participating in a “press gaggle’ in White House Press Secretary’ Sean Spicer’s office. Excluded from the press gaggle were CNN, the New York Times, Buzz Feed, the Washington Post, The Hill, Politico, the Daily Mail, the BBC, the Los Angeles Times and the New York Daily News.

Allowed access to Spicer’s office were alternative media news organizations Breitbart, the Washington Times, One America News Network. ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, AP, Reuters, Time and Bloomberg were also invited. AP and Time boycotted the event apparently in solidarity with their main stream media bretheren being excluded.

CNN immediately express outrage issuing a statement calling the exclusion “unacceptable” and CNN’s Jake Tapper calling the move “Un American“. Reporters Without Borders claimed that the exclusion was unacceptable “in the country of the First Amendment”.

Breitbart referred to the media outrage over their exclusion as “fake news”, noting that Presidents Obama often held private briefings exclusively for “liberal media” outlets.

Don Lemon Ends Segment Abrupty When Guest Calls it “Fake News”

The concept of “fake news” was invented by the main stream media in order to silence alternative media. Coupled with accusations of Russians the term fake news was intended to shut down free speech.

The NY Times used the term fake news over 100 times in December 2016 to raise awareness of the threat it posed to “our democracy”. The main stream media companies made arrangements with social media platforms to help stamp out fake news. Hillary Clinton also joined the fight against fake news.

The Washington Post publicized a list of fake news web sites that they cited as also having Russian ties. That set off counter charges by alternative media outlets calling main stream media outlets as purveying fake news.

THEN Donald Trump called out CNN as fake news and then doubled down and called CNN very fake news. The term “fake news” has stuck more to the main stream media outlets than the alternative media news sites.

This pisses off the reporters at CNN, MSNBC and the New York Times to the point of excessive justification and outright annoyance.

The fake news term has boomeranged to the point that the Washington Post wants to retire the term.

Don Lemon recently threw a hissy fit when one of his guests referred to his entire segment on the cost of protecting the president as “fake news”

Fake News is the Enemy of the People – Donald Trump

Donald Trump has increased the pressure on the “failing New York Times” and “fake news” CNN by referring to these news outlets and others of their ilk as “enemies of the people”. The President tweeted today:

AP Reports Fake News on Trump Plan To Use the National Guard

Seemingly intent on publishing any potentially damaging leak first, AP published an “exclusive” story based on a leaked draft memorandum, AP published a report that the Trump administration was set to employ the National Guard to help deport illegal aliens.

According to the AP report, the Trump Administration was planning on using 100,000 National Guard troops to assist in its deportation efforts. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer immediately noted “That is 100 percent not true. It is false. It is irresponsible to be saying this.” Spicer said.” I don’t know what could potentially be out there, but I know that there is no effort to do what is potentially suggested.”

According to the Daily Beast, a Department of Homeland Security official told them that the draft memorandum that AP cited was “an early, pre-decisional draft, that Kelly never approved it, and that the department as a whole never seriously considered it.”

AP’s fake National Guard story follows their fake story earlier this month on Trump’s telephone threat to Mexican President Nieto to send US troops “down there to “stop some bad hombres”.

Donald Trump Downgrades His Assessment of CNN From Fake News to VERY Fake News

At a freewheeling press conference today, Donald Trump continued an in-person assault on his media adversaries. During his first solo press conference as President, Donald Trump noted:

“Our nation’s reporters and folks will not tell you the truth. And will not treat the wonderful people of our country with the respect that they deserve. Many of our nation’s reporters and folks will not tell you the truth and will not treat you with the respect you deserve. Much of the media in Washington, D.C., along with New York, Los Angeles in particular, speaks for the special interests and for those profiting off the obviously very, very broken system.”

“The press has become so dishonest that if we don’t talk about it we are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people. Tremendous disservice. We have to talk about it. We have to find out what’s going on because the press honestly is out of control.”

Trump also touted his achievements, his approval ratings and referred to a BBC reporter “another beauty”. The highlight of the press conference occurred when Donald Trump took a question from CNN reporter Jim Acosta. When he was President-Elect, Mr. Trump refused to take a question from Mr. Acosta and told him CNN was terrible and “you are fake news“.

Here is the exchange with CNN’s reporter Jim Acosta where Donald Trump downgrades CNN to “Very Fake News”

Chris Cuomo: Calling A Journalist Fake News is Like Calling Someone the N Word

Fake News accusations are getting under the skin of main stream media reporters as the moniker begins to stick to them. The latest “fake news” reporter to indicate how sensitive they are to the charge of fake news is CNN’s Chris Cuomo. Chris Cuomo, whose fame as a reporter comes from his infamous lecture that the average person was not allowed to read the Wikileaks; that only he, as part of the “media”, could tell the public what was in them.

Today, Mr. Cuomo, brother of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, had the audacity to stateI see being called fake news as the equivalent of the N word for journalists, the equivalent of calling an Italian any of the ugly words that people have for that ethnicity.”

Mr. Cuomo’s comments are ludicrous. Calling a reporter fake news reflects a charge of lying or unethical reporting. Such a charge is behavior based. Calling someone an ethnic slur is not based on the actions of that person, but rather simply for being a member of an ethnic group. There is no “equivalent” as Mr. Cuomo asserted, other than calling someone an ethnic slur or fake news is an insult.

Mark Dice takes Mr. Cuomo to task here for his odious comparison of “fake news” and the “N Word” here:

Mr. Cuomo later apologized for his remarks that many thought insensitive and others just plain stupid.
